This study objective was to verify the association among the geometric design of distinct orthodontic mini-implants (MIs), primary stability, and insertion site quality. Four types of MIs were allocated according to their characteristics. The valuation parameters were obtained by Scanning Electron Microscope images, and the measurements were carried out with Image-Pro® Insight software. The Graduate Program in Orthodontics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) was the first one founded in Brazil in 1958. Nowadays, the Program includes Master's and Doctorate degrees, and has a strong national and international reputation, due to the quality of its faculty and its scientific and intellectual productivity. Graduates of the UFRJ Program in Orthodontics are spread across Brazil and located in countries in South, Central and North America, as well as Europe; they currently teach at public and private teaching institutions or professional associations and entities.

Fifty years ago, the first graduate course in Orthodontics in Brazil was established at the National School of Dentistry of the University of Brazil, located in Rio de Janeiro also known as Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The educational structure of the Graduate Program in Orthodontics has grown considerably over the years in terms of clinical and scientific aspects. As such, the Graduate Program in Dentistry (Orthodontics) of the UFRJ which includes Master's and Doctorate Programs, currently has a strong national and international reputation, due to the quality of its faculty and its scientific and intellectual productivity.
